MRI's are neat. Look at all the crazy little veins and cool fatty looking stuff! It's so neat to see how everything fits together.
Anyway, so this is my problem; why I can't draw, why I haven't posted doujinshi yet: The nerves in my elbows are fucked up right were they pass between the two bones on the inner side (the ulnar nerve.) I'm kind of posting this because most people don't seem to read journals (I don't always have time either, no biggie, but) I'm still getting questions about commissions and if I'll be completing art projects, or why my site with the doujinshi hasn't launched yet. I don't really mind the questions, (I'm not upset that I get them, hell, they're flattering) it's just hard for me to physically type sometimes, (and for some reason I always feel the need to explain everything and type A LOT ) OR... sometimes it can be hard for me to just admit to the fact that I can't draw right now, so explaining the situation is something I'd rather just have one link to point people to... So: it's not that I don't want to do either of those things, it's that I can't. I do want to take commissions and have my site launched, and I'm sure I will do these things when/if I can again. I should also link to this account, which has more info: [link] I was trying to learn to draw with my left arm, but it went out too. So, if my left arm gets better, and my right arm doesn't, I'll start posting at that one again. If my right arm gets better, I'll start posting at this account again.
The MRI: the doctors are the ones who put arrows on it. I found the MRI machine very relaxing. I think they should hire Boards of Canada to add a little more to the sounds the machine makes, it would fit right in.
Here's a summery I wrote to post on my still-in-progress site History of Hyrule:
Why are things taking so long, when will the site be open, and what's wrong with your arms. A timeline of all this: Here's a brief history to answer all those kinds of questions: In the winter of 2008; I announced I was re-opening the site (after years on hiatus, in a good part due to health.) I made this announcement so I could find some help before it was opened- mostly- I needed people who could translate stuff. I planned on having the site open on it's 7th birthday, in May of 2009. I started organizing all my content and was building the layout.
At the start of 2009 some stressful not-cool stuff happened, I also got married, so this put a hold on things for a little while. I got back to working on the site, then our landlords told us we'd have to buy the house we were in or move. Their asking price was retarded for the area (they don't live here) so I started seriously house hunting. This was time intensive- so was buying the house we found. It was more complicated than it should have been. It was in our dream area, but it was a fixer upper. I didn't have a full-time job, like my husband- so all these things became my task. I had to put off opening the site.
In the fall of 2009 things settled down and I started working on the site again. Then more INSANELY stressful stuff happened so a friend came to live with us for a short time. Just after that I noticed I was having problems with my hands being kinda numb. I started going to physical therapy twice a week and to see doctors for advice. This takes me into the winter of 2009. Then that problem went from bad to horrible: numbness changed to extreme pain. Turns out I have nerve damage in both elbows and this equates to some weirdness: I spent several months living practically armless. With rest and acupuncture this leads me to my current situation; on some days my arms are nearly fine, and there's hardly any pain, on other days I can't even lift a glass of water (and typing hurts even on the in-between days.) Surgery is an option BUT, I'm told it's very risky in my case- most people who have had it for the reasons I'd need it say they wish they had never had it. For example: there seems to be only about a 20% chance of anything getting better if I do get it, and around a 3 year recovery period, so ..yeah. I'm taking my time and seeing where things go before I do that. This whole situation, initially, caused a lot of fear and panic on my part- I either couldn't physically work on the site, or I was mentally elsewhere. So I didn't get much done in the fall, winter, and spring.
So, summer of 2010: I'm still working on the site, I've picked it up again: but I can only do what my arms allow me to do depending on how they feel on any given day. Now that I'm less freaked out and have learned to cope with my situation better, I've collected my thoughts and have started asking more people for help in areas other than translation.
Oh gosh that's kind of terrifying (I was just trooping through because someone had shown me an amazing piece you did of Link and Midna). I'll definitely pray for your health and healing.
hey, know this is oolldd but felt like saying -cause ya know i saw it. ^^. im sorry for you and i hope it all gets better. in a very small way i understand the sitchuation. i had a car accident, while walking home. and i couldn't even use my right arm properly and thats what i use to draw. so. i guess i kinda know what you mean. but i'm workin my way back up to normal. lil over a year now. =3 your strong. good luck deary. I praise your efforts.
That blows so bad. I love your heart and just tonight I recently discovered you on deviantart, from being a fan of your zelda fanarts on various websites youve been on. When you can let us know how youre doing from time to time if you can. <3 I'll send good energies your way and hope everything works out. You deserve to have it go well for you.
Naw, not paralyzed, *thank the gods* though- it could have gone that way and, if surgery doesn't go well, it still could. Right now it's just more of a "hurt if I move it wrong" issue. It's both, but it's worse in my right, and I'm right handed. I tried drawing with my left, I even made an account for it but that's when I realized that arm was damaged too. poop. On Feb 24 2011, it will be a whole year since both my arms went out. Fun...
This is a similar situation to what I'm in (health wise) I have extreme carpal tunnel in both of my wrists and I too have been to the doctors who mentioned the surgery. (which I refuse to do, due to the low success rate )
I dont know if this will help but I have heard that there are some home remedies that maybe you could try...
For my pain, I usually take a half a Mersyndol (over the counter pain medication) and I massage in an anti inflammatory cream called Volteran (also over the counter) and it works wonders for me.
Another is Ice and or heat. I have also been told that perhaps a chiropracter would help, as would acupuncture, and massage therapy (using lotion, massage up and down the arm and around the elbow firmly). I believe the key for that is just to relax the arms, because when you are hurting, everything tenses up and makes the feeling worse.
I believe there is also a brace that you would be able to get for your elbow at the drug store.
Regardless, I do agree that x-rays are pretty cool!
