Chirp. Once again, just practicing and experimenting. Let me know what you think.
The original is roughly 3 x 6.5 inches. I used a mechanical pencil, a prismacolor blue pencil, waterproof pen, and it was mostly done with acrylic paint and in one of the cheap, thin paper, moleskine sketchbooks. The image is of a spotted towhee (I think), and was referenced from the Birds of Oregon Field Guide by Stan Tekiela [link]
I think it's a beautiful little sketch! I adore seeing artist's sketches/experiments/doodles and what not. There is something so nice about them. A very nice rendering.
You are so good at drawing birds, and I absolutely love your style. You're like my role model when it comes to drawings like this! The drawing is slightly stylized, but it still looks like a real life representation of a bird. It has a little bit of your artistic license showing through, and I admire that so much.
One of my favorite artists is a wild-life illustrator from Oklahoma, Debbie Kaspari. Her style is similar to yours, and if you want some ideas or reference images, I really recommend looking at some of her work. Here's her website: [link]
Keep up the good work! I love looking at your sketches.
D: Ah! thank you so much, that's really too sweet to hear. I looked at that woman's site, back when you first posted this, she's amazing! I'm sad that her site seems to be down now.
You are amazing with this stuff. The only critique I could possible give is that the right foot doesn't match the rest of the work. It sort of looks unfinished. Besides that, it's awesome. Even the eye, I feel like the bird is looking at me.
